Increasing Employee Engagement at your Firm
Eden Minucci, Legal Operations Partner, and Janelle Chapa, Director of Operations, sat down to discuss how to improve employee engagement in the office. The conversation has been lightly edited. You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnk0vIsTaM4
Eden: There are so many important elements when we talk about employee engagement, but we’ve identified 3 key topics. Janelle, why don’t you tell us more about those?
Janelle: Those 3 topics are investing in your staff, embracing workplace flexibility, and committing to unwavering core values. First, investing in your staff means making sure you have an environment that offers challenges for people and a very strong support system. People tend to stay where they feel they are supported, where they can shine. I also think that means investing in training for yourself, making sure that the materials needed to succeed at your firm are available and that there is a clear path for their advancement.
Eden: On top of that too making sure that there’s some provisions for mental and physical wellbeing. That is what a lot of people are interested in. Along with that, we’re still looking at workplace flexibility as being important. I don’t know if we will ever go back to people wanting to be in the office full-time after we learned how well we could work remotely.
Janelle: We have a blog post and a recording about the benefits of hybrid workplaces and how they benefit both the employer and the employee. Workplace flexibility really contributes to employee retention as well.
Eden: I know a lot of people think they have core values but not everybody lives them. You have to unwaveringly commit to your core values. Janelle, can you tell us a little bit about that?
Janelle: When an employee joins the firm they usually look at the differences based on what a firm values. You really want to stick to that and live those values day in and day out to make sure that what they signed up for is what they are continuing to get. When those values change and they aren’t being followed, it makes an employee weary of the firm they decided to work for.
